- Who are you?
My name is Alma and I am from CDMX, the best city in the world and where you will find the top garnachas. I am Aries and I like to taste margaritas.
- What are your hobbies and interests?
I like eating chocolate or coffee ice cream, crying, singing, sleeping, and dancing. I love when I am having my cup of coffee with a pastry, doing makeup, and listening to music and podcasts. I also like knitting, but I do not spend as much time as I would like to on it.
My interests, hmmm, personal growth, spirituality, and words. I think that words are really important: the tone, the way you use them. You can change a person’s life for good or for bad with the right words. Of course, acts are heavier, but words are like, hmmm I do not know how to explain it, hmmm for me words are one of the many tools that can change the world.
- What brought you to Vancouver?
An airplane LOL. For real and in short, a broken heart… One of my siblings was living here already and she insisted that I should come, and of course I did not want to. Then, the love of my life in turn decided to move and I felt abandoned, so I came out of spite. I thought “If he can move, so can I.” If moving is difficult, with the mindset I had back then, it was even harder: I did not know it, but I was being unhappy and moving was not going to be enough. I went back to CDMX for a couple of months and with the help of counseling, I started to find myself and then I made the decision to move (on) consciously and aware of what and for whom I was doing it. Of course, now my life is totally different and for the better <3
- What would make you stay here?
I do not know, HA! Well, I do know, but lately, I have been asking myself the same question. I love living here, but sometimes it feels like nothing happens, and other times everything happens too fast. It is probably not the place, but life itself. Anyway, I am staying because of the city, the beach, the mountains, the bike lanes, the work-life balance, the job conditions, the safety, and the freedom to be myself, especially as a woman.
- What is the best advice you have ever received?
One day at a time. Sometimes it is “One minute at a time,” “One task at a time,” or even “One emotion at a time,” but that is the idea.
- What are the top three places to visit or meals to try in CDMX?
To eat, tacos de suadero and torta de tamal de dulce. To visit, Palacio de Bellas Artes.
PS: A garnacha is any variant of fried corn dough to which one of various ingredients are added, such as shredded meat, crumbled cheese, or a variety of fresh vegetables.
