When I decided to take over YCS, I was convinced that I would finally be free. The idea of being my own boss sounded perfect: managing my own time, making my own decisions, and most importantly, doing only what I love! I thought that by being in charge, I could avoid everything that did not motivate me. How wrong I was! HAHA.
The reality of entrepreneurship is very different from what we imagine when we dream of independence. While having your own business is an incredibly enriching journey, it also comes with a countless number of tasks that are not always exciting, and that often test us more than we expect. Sometimes, being the head of a business means facing things that not only do not excite you, but can even be a personal and emotional challenge.
What I struggled most to understand was that being my own boss did not just mean making the most creative or exciting decisions, but also being responsible for aspects that, while crucial, are not what energize me. In fact, there are many daily tasks that I would rather avoid, but unfortunately, they are part of the job. From managing finances, to replying to endless emails, to handling logistics. None of that is as exciting as the creative side of the business, but still, each of these tasks is essential to keeping the company afloat.
I have started to accept that there will be times when, although it is tough, I have to face what I do not like doing.
So, even though being my own boss is not what I imagined (and I do not always enjoy every task I have to do), I know that all the effort is worth it. Learning to embrace what I do not like, to delegate what I can, and to stay focused on what truly matters to me has allowed me to keep moving forward with YCS.
In the end, entrepreneurship is a balance between passion and sacrifice, between what you love to do and what you need to do. And although sometimes not everything is fun, everything contributes to the growth and success of what we are building.
Until next time,
Alma
